The cabinet is a midcentury cabinet that needed refinishing as well as restoration. The cabinet is used as a small kitchen island for making baked goods and breads. The finish appearing on the “Before” photos are the result of an novice finisher’s attempt to refinish this cabinet. Many of these flaws appeared 18 months after the initial work was done.
Prior to the novice finisher’s attempts, the cabinet was light maple with a clear finish. Due to the damage to the wood, the wood required a darker finish in order to obtain an overall consistent coloring. The cabinet’s removable acrylic top was supplied by the customer.
Here is a side view (before and after):
Besides stripping and washing the wood, due to the age and damage, we repaired and filled in areas where the wood had missing areas, made other repairs where needed to insure the structural integrity of this piece, replaced casters that had broken, and other work, in addition to providing our professional refinishing services. (The lighter coloring at the top is a lighting and camera issue. These photos were supplied by the customer).
